Highlights
The streak is over at 2—the home team lost. Not much action in this one with both teams surrendering only 1 hit each thru the first 7 innings. The Nationals starter Jason Bergmann mixed 4 walks with 8 strikeouts thru 6 innings including striking out the side in the first. The Braves John Smoltz was equally impressive striking out 4 and walking 2 thru the first 7 but was finally reached in the eighth for 2 runs that turned out to be the only runs scored in the game. Smoltz added some offensive excitement when he flied deep up against the wall to the center fielder in the second and again with another deep fly ball to the right fielder in the fifth.
